the callino quartet

as former leader and founder member of the callino quartet, ioana enjoyed seven years of intensive quartet life including concerts, touring, recording and education workshops. a hugely versatile ensemble, the quartet won an international prize for their interpretation of haydn at the paolo borciani string quartet competition in 2003. equally committed to all genres of music, the quartet worked closely with composers such as peteris vasks and franghiz ali-zadeh on interpreting their own works and collaborated with a wide range of artists such as john abercrombie (jazz guitar), julius drake (piano), canadian rock band arcade fire, edgar meyer (double bass) and the belcea quartet to name but a few.

the callino quartet's recording of ian wilson's string quartets is available on the riverrun label (visit the recordings page for more information) and their annual festival 'callino and friends' still takes place every year over easter weekend in ireland - see the callinos' website for more details by clicking here.
