Left hand poised and ready for the opening arpeggiated chord of Fratres, by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt – I had the unbelievable privilege to work with him in person in 2008 while preparing some of his works for performance.

In this drawing and in One Thousand and One, the human hand (a self-portrait) is drawn striving and in a state of tension in charcoal - temporary, of little worth, ashes to ashes. Meanwhile the music ascends freely in precious silver and gold, even the shadows shine.
