drawings

Repurposed violin strings meander in and out of graphically-notated fragments in silent melody, sometimes adding an extra dimension to delicate, monochrome drawings of hands, self-portraits. Meanwhile the bow provides the other half of the story, when tensed and stretched it’s what makes the violin sing. Released, the hair makes no sound, instead offering different interpretations as it plays with the movement of light. Silver and goldpoint trails echo the paths made by the strings and hair, inverting the rules as the light shifts – shadows shine and light casts shade.

In my drawings I explore the overlaps and liminal spaces between the worlds of visual art and music, from my experiences, memories and perspectives as a professional musician and artist……click on each drawing below for more detail.
